This is the ONLY way to teach your child to read I did it over 20 years ago with both my children and I ve just bought a copy for my cousin to teach her little lad.
It s a fantastic book The only way to do it.
To be honest this wasn t as food or informative as I d expected I guess that s the problem when you can t flick through it first in the bookshop However cant cult the delivery etc.
Lots of rhyming useful for the young.
my little boy found the stories dull have done much better with the phonic readers about Batman , Superman and Star wars, backed up by Oxford reading tree ¿ Teach Your Child To Read: A Phonic Reading Guide for Parents and Teachers: A Phonetic Reading Primer for Parents and Teachers to Use with Children ç I bought the book Teach Your Child To read by Annis Garfield after my son stopped reading within half a term at school aged 5 he was bored After making sure he knew his letters shown at the front of the book I went through one page with him for about 10 minutes every day after school, teaching him to read phonetically as taught by the book I read the poems and stories to him afterwards By half term of the following term he was able to read with the best of them and by the end of the year was able to read any book for 6 years old plus and almost any individual word I would recommend it to any parent frustrated with the pace of their children s learning.
Maybe be a little repetitive for the child but so is most learning and some fun rhymes Keep it simple and use this book, all the best I bought this book as part of a multi stage process to teach all of my children to read.
They enjoyed the first part of the book and would go through some of the lists, but would get bored with them quite quickly Once this happened I would stop the list and then just read a story with them.
It was very good for teaching the principle of using phonics, which helped them when they were constructingdifficult words It definitely helped and I would recommend it as a starting point.
